The king of paintball has been dethroned … or has it. For years now new ballers and veteran ballers alike have had a special place in their hearts for the Tippmann A5 but the question on the street lately has been the will of the latest version of Tippmann, The Tippmann X7, conjure up the same worship the next Tippmann A5 has enjoyed for years?
For years now paintballin boys and girls alike who are just entering the sport are gone the A5 route due to reliability, ease of use and of course the bang for the money factor. Most people have carried out their beloved A5, as they have progressed in capacity due to the ability of the A5 to do the same. No matter what your skills are the A5 has the ability to adapt and grow with you (unless, of course, skills have to do with speedball, that's another story.)
The recent release of Tippmanns X7 came with a lot of hype. It was the first release in history that was a collaboration between a manufacturer and a distributor of existing paintball have teamed up to launch a firearm. The real question is whether or not a partnership as this is the best. There is a large laundry list of cons that come from a collaboration of this nature, one of the largest limited mods.
Although Tippmann says that there are millions of settings for the look of real gun, that is, all the bench when SpecOps decides to release them because they have exclusive rights to mods for the X7. Now does "exclusive rights" means, maybe, maybe not that other manufacturers will not enter the market with some of the mods own. I guess it all depends on the mood of the boys SpecOps Tippmann and if they decide to take legal action or not depends on them.
The major drawback of Tippmann X7 is the lack of control the paintballers around the world is on the "non-commercialized" customization of the brand itself and that is really where the A5 is still much higher, and there are thousands of ways you can customize your Tippmann A5 and there is no restriction on who can jump into the market when they create something that is different and possibly colder than the last guy had created.
With all that said, our view on the Tippmann X7 is that it is generally a good gun. How can go wrong with a Tippmann reliability right? A couple of the features we liked most about it is the plastic scratch resistant, which has received some mixed reviews and above all we like the activation email options. Compared to the A5 etrigger options where you have to do a lot of celebration the button and wait for the light to turn and then stand on his head and jump up and down on his left foot, the Tippmann X7 etrigger lets you switch from safety, single shot in Full Auto while still have the option to shoot in three streams throughout the year. Even with all the politics surrounding the gun we believe it is an ideal weapon for beginners to intermediate woodsball players.
