Suzuki LTZ 400-2003. Oil tank / bottle filling problem?

I stripped the threads in my oil bottle / tank (which is in front of motor). I bought a new used one and re-installed. I filled a new bottle of oil with 2 qrts, and nothing recorded in the probe. I added more oil qrts 2 (4 total qrts) Finnally and registered on the dipstick. I started the quad – error – and blew the oil filter and exhaust. So every bit of oil drained and clean the filter and pipe. I can re-filled the oil tank / bottle with the recommended oil 2 qrts, and the tank was dry and not recorded in the probe. Why record oil or even close when I know I've added the right amount of oil in the tank / bottle? Could the oil bottle has a hose? I know the bike has the correct amount of oil in the gears, but not in the bottle.

I'm not familiar with that model. Machines with external oil tanks can can vary even an experienced mechanic. So I do not feel so bad. Most of the time should be the oil level is checked, while the bike is in neutral and the operating temperature. After draining the oil, put the amount needed and check the oil level while it is running. Drain added as needed. Then there are those who operate the motor and off for a few minutes, then check the oil level.
