It is the chain or rope harder to break?

If plastic was covered with braided steel cable and chrome chain of the same thickness, it would be harder to crack? I imagine it would be more difficult to cut or saw the chain strong. I ask this to determine how best to secure my bike to a steel pipe. The chain costs 5 times longer, and much, much heavier. Indeed, the chain links are made of steel half inch in diameter, and the cable is half an inch in diameter. Good point of having to cut the string twice, not even thinking about it. Even with a cut on the links not bent by human power.

When you say, "the same thickness, which means that you assume the cable diameter is the same as the cable actually to make a link in the chain … So, then definitely * in the chain – you have to cut through a link TWICE to breaking a string! Unless the metal is so fragile that could separate them, but still, that's an advantage for the chain, because once the cable is cut, it is.
