Redefined Code

Redefined Code
My Cobol numeric operation is not reacting to negative numbers.?

Code reappears then negative numbers as non-numerical because of the letter at the end. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Example: 0006546K AMOUNT-EXP 05-IN PIC S9 (6) V99. AMOUNT-IN-05 X REDEFINES AMOUNT-EXP-EN PIC X (8). CHECK-480-DE-numeric-AMOUNT. IF AMOUNT IS NOT NUMERIC IN X then move "yes" to NO AMOUNT – numeric-WS MOVE "Quantity is not numeric" MESSAGE TO ERROR-350-OUT-PERFORM IF ELSE PRINT amount in X <0 THEN MOVE "negative number" to an error-MESSAGE-OUT PERFORM 350-PRINT ELSE MOVE 'NO' TO AMOUNT NOT-numeric-FIN-SI-WS.

You should be able to perform the tests of the class in the numeric field itself, without the need to redefine the field (in any case should not see much in X <0). Try this: if the quantity-EXP-DIGITAL IN NO … ELSE IF-EXP-AMOUNT IN NEGATIVE … ELSE … END-IF.
