Does hair dye cause cancer?

Never mind that permanent hair dye chemical composition of high tension and can dry hair. There are many more questions about what hair dyes can also damage or destroy the hair follicles.

A large percentage of men and American women use permanent hair dyes of some sort. Since the current population of Baby Boomers are aging, the number of people dying or coloring hair in the U.S. has been increasing steadily. Office of the U.S. Census estimated that more than 22 million single women who dye their hair for the year 2003.

The causes of most cancers are unknown. However certain risk factors, such as snuff or exposure to toxins at work, are known to be associated with certain types of cancer. In all cases of cancer there are multiple factors involved. Genes and general health play a role in determining whether exposure to carcinogens known (cancer causing substances) will result in their contracting cancer. Research suggests alink between hair dyes and bladder cancer has been contradicted by the latest research and thought now there is no such link.

Recent research on the hair dying problem was out a few months ago and published in the American Journal of Epidemiology on May 26, 2006. What took place at the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Barcelona on data collected six European countries. The analysis showed that the risk of non – Hodgkin lymphoma increased with 19% in individuals who use hair color from time to time, while those who get their hair dyed regularly – as monthly – the risk of cancer increased 26%.

Strong evidence that the use of hair dye increases cancer risk. Specifically, the research team found that, worldwide, use of hair coloring products has no apparent effect on the breast and cancers of the bladder, but may slightly increase the risk of leukemia and multiple myeloma. However, they said that the causal effect was too weak to be a major concerns.

Some research has shown that hair dyes may lead to an increased risk of bladder cancer, while other research has suggested it does not. Some research has examined the different types of dyes and others not. Some studies were probably too small to appear on any small increase in risk. In the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in May 2005, there was a large meta-analysis published which looked at all research on hair dyes can cause cancer. A meta-analysis is research that brings together all previous study results. This has determined that it is unlikely that any link between hair dye use and bladder cancer.

An analysis of the many studies examining a possible link between hair dye use and cancer did not support a cause and effect. While still unlikely, could still be a small risk associated with certain types of cancer. More studies focusing on the hairdresser, who are routinely exposed to chemicals in hair dyes, may shed more light on a possible link to cancers.

hair dye is unlikely to be a significant risk factor for cancer, if at all. Background family, diet, smoking, and exercise have more to do with the risk of cancer if you choose or not to be a brunette or a blonde.
