'79 Benz 300D, I can put a fuel hose in my long pre-filter, next to the bomb?

I want to replace the fuel line that little short, going to the fuel pump from the pre-filter, the other much longer. A longer hose cause problems? Why is so short that the hose there?

All diesel engines are fuel injection and carburetor. diesel powered cars and trucks require more fuel pressure high to provide the combustion of diesel in a very high compression ratio. Some cars and trucks use steel fuel lines to reduce minimizing the risk of leakage of the rubber fuel pipes in lengths of time to reduce the vaporization and expansion. Try using a longer hose between pre-filter and fuel pump. Remove all air leakage points.
