Inline Regulator

positive territory? in a tractor?

Hello, I have an old tractor Minnanapolis Moline. There is a generator and regulator, no alternator. Sample discharge into the amp indicator? I have the regulator and the generator rebuilt now and still shows disharge and drains the battery. The manual says that the tractor should have a positive reason. So that is how I connected. All cables everywhere they look really good and I feel perplexed. I was thinking of changing the battery cables as bad as leads to land just to see what happens, but I wonder if this could damage the new generator or regulator. There does seem to be any type of line module or a fuse or something. Do you have any idea what could be causing this. I have also tried two different batteries. ??????????
