The Golden Retriever is a perennial Top Ten popularity of the breed for many reasons. The behavior usually quiet, the active nature but smooth and eager to please attitude combined with intelligence and trainability. They are friendly, reliable and trustworthy.
What this means for the average homeowner – Requires active TREN. They are eager to learn and try to be busy. They need mental stimulation – toys, games and activities – not to be bored and destructive. They want to please and learn new tasks.
It is said that the Golden Retriever traces its heritage to Scotland. A yellow puppy from a litter of black retrievers wavy coated was used as payment of a debt, and ended in the hands of Lord Chichester Marjoribanks, who took the puppy to Scotland, where he held a hunting dog kennel. Searching create an excellent dog suited to the climate of Scotland, the land and the game, later yellow-breed puppy to a Tweed Water Spaniel, a breed that no longer exists, except for the lines of the Golden Retriever. These offspring were bred with Tweed Water Spaniel and a red setter, but was mostly kept the golden puppies. Marjoribanks was a farmer with a vision, and these initial cubs, born in late 1860, appear much as the golden retriever today.
work capacity was of great practical importance, like the other Scottish breeds of dogs. There was little space or funds for free-loaders "- the dogs had to pay their own way. In early 1900 dogs went to the shows as a "Retriever – Flat-coated corrugated or any other color, but in 1920 the official name of Golden Retriever. In 1932, The AKC recognized the breed here in the U.S.
Currently the standard males are 23-24 inches with females slightly smaller, with 65-75 dogs pounds and females 55-65. Those interested in showing the physical level can be found in http://www.akc.org/breeds/golden_retriever/ – And it is worth noting that many dogs are used for more to show.
Like many other large breeds, the Golden Retriever is subject to certain hereditary diseases. hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, hereditary cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), eyelid problems, a heart condition known as aortic stenosis subvavular, disorders thyroid, seizures and other health problems that affect all races. Many of these inherited disorders can be found by testing, and animals showing signs of these diseases should not be used for reproduction. Unfortunately, many lower-priced puppies breeders who do not have proof of these diseases often do not know what are actually achieved. While race can live more than 10 years, a statistic from the reports just over 60% of older goldens being affected by cancer – Something that is viewed on your older dogs.
Select your puppy with longevity in mind. This is a race that may have 8-10, sometimes 12 puppies – and a dozen little growth mouths is a long time to educate them properly.
Regular grooming is essential for this breed. The distinctive shield for outdoor activities but Regular brushing is necessary. In addition, some Goldens get mats on the hair, especially near the flanks, chest and back of the elbow. Cutting these out before laying down near the skin makes it a happier dog. Regular grooming keeps ringing and other coating materials as well. Nail trimming and dental care is necessary, as any dog.
Many, of course, love the water too. As with some other retrievers, beware the dog does not become overweight, which can lead to other health problems. For greatest race who do not eat as much as some people expected, and can easily reach to be overweight, which shortens its life.
Selection for intelligence and function has developed a dog that suits the needs of today many in a wide variety of activities. From a beautiful spectacle and energetic dog a service dog calm, a hunter, a K-9 search and rescue, dog freestyle, agility, flyball, tracking and many other activities of the Golden is a race that intends to perform and please.
While K-9 is not likely to have the unit for end up with a criminal, its use is for other important tasks. His nose was developed for hunting, can still be used in the field today hunting the birds recovered. Golden are also very visible to the search for missing persons.
An example of what these amazing dogs can not be shown in dogs as "Austin" Golden Retriever included in the Hall of Fame Texas Animal and honored by the U.S. Search and Rescue Dogs of the Year by the AKC. A group of hunters Austin found lost in the woods near Houston, and the puppy was given to a breed rescue dog trained as a service and the audience. His life took another turn when became a policeman. Certificate in advance tracking, area search and evidence search of body and air operations, can Austin search for missing people, calmly and in your controller helicopters hanging from the edge of a precipice.
Golden Retrievers have been in the forefront of disaster as the Oklahoma City bombing, the World Trade Center attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and many other natural and man-made disasters worldwide.
Golden Retrievers have served as the heroes of other classes as well. His work with people with autism, such as service dogs with a wide range of functions and guide dogs are only some ways to help people. The search for drugs, explosives and other illegal things exercises the intelligence of the race and discernment.
Probably Celebrity most recognized of the breed is "Duke", the mischievous opportunist trying to sell the secret recipe for beans on Bush TV ads. "Freedom" was a dog White House, President Gerald Ford dog. "Victory" was another dog presidential beingowned by Ronald Reagan. Christopher Reeves was a Golden one service dog.
Among the bonds of the celebrity race is Oprah, Dean Koontz, Jim Belushi, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Tom Cruise, Billy Ray Cyrus, Neil Diamond, Ron Howard, Paul Newman, Conan O'Brien, Joe Pesci, Jane Seymour, Martha Stewart and Alan Thicke are only a few celebrities with Golden Retriever.
Similarly, Golden Retriever list of heroes is long. Many have been saved from the fires. A 15 year old Golden saved the life of a three-week-old baby owners alerting something was wrong with the child. The AKC conceded this hero with special honors – unfortunately, less than a year later the bullet lost his life to cancer. Golden also have kept their own bears, choking, snakes, carbon monoxide, cancer, coyotes, drowning and frostbite. A tumor sniffed the owner the brain, while another warned of a heart attack.
These are expressions of loyalty to race and help explain why so many people who love this race. Ranking fourth nationally in 2007, were first to Honolulu. They rank second in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Buffalo, Charlotte, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, Minnepolis-St. Paul, Portland, Raleigh, Seattle and St. Louis. Are also listed third in Dallas, Des Moines, Little Rock, Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego and San Francisco (tie).
The Golden Retriever is truly a people dog. A dog of many hats, but with the same dedication, loyalty and willingness for like a hundred years ago, are a race of a wide range of situations experienced by the owners to provide understanding of race, provide training and exercise and treasure the dog. Treasury not him as a human being, which degrades and takes the dogs can do special things we can not, but as a creature who seems to understand and love that are deficient to us anyway.
