marzipan! what to do with it ?!?!?

ok for our anniversary this year, my boyfriend and I are doing each other that we are trying presents save for a house! anyway always wanted to do mini marzipan fruits and animals you see in the stores, but never did. I thought for our anniversary I want to make him a box of marzipan shapes. I thought I would make shapes and objects that mean something to us, and the things we've done together. By example, a rhinoceros, because recently he went behind the scenes at the zoo and rhinos, and now we patted them love! but somehow do it! I bought a packet of marzipan, but do not know what to do next. it is as simple as getting a bit of marzipan, adding food dye for the color and then molding it in the way I want, like clay? then leave? or am I dreaming it's that simple? if anyone knows Please help me!
