How to build a spud gun with Tirofijo kit (SIK-20)

SIK-20 Standard Instructions Igniter

These instructions are designed to help build an effective and simple weapon Spud (a potato gun).

1. These instructions and procedures are provided as is.
There is no guarantee that this device will work as well or better as I have experienced, intent, or describe its operation. In other words, your results may vary, and the results can still be very adverse, possibly resulting in personal injury or property damage. Please check site for denial more information.

2. The wording and statements / nomenclature related to the construction and operation of this potato launcher are intended as such to help ensure that an attempt to have a basic understanding of equipment and materials involved. If some of the statements seem 'Greek' to you or you do not recognize some symbols or phrases, which is totally my intention, and you should get help from a trusted source or not proceed at all.

3. These instructions are intended for a beginner or someone who has never built a spudgun before. The procedure described below is not necessarily the same method or spudgun another experienced builder uses. These instructions will help guide the construction of a "sound" piece of hardware implementation. As they acquire experience, you can find different things that may work better for you …. but start simple. Thanks, and happy spudding!

Note that the pipeline PVC / fittings are not approved by the manufacturer to be used for the purpose of constructing spudguns.

Step 1: How to build things spud gun (potato gun)

This list of materials is very simple to create a model potato starting pitcher, with the intent to make the most of your money (by so to speak). By no means is this the only way to build a launcher, or nearly the best, but still capable of providing hours of fun. Also, make sure pressure to obtain classified parts for building your Spud gun. No recommend ABS or type of cellular core pipe and fittings, these are not the nominal pressure and insecurity.

MATERIALS:

Get the following:

1. 12 "pressure of 4" SCH40 PVC pipe Rated water (camera body)

2. 48 "2" SCH40 PVC pipe water pressure rated (Stock Barrel)

3. 4 "PVC coupler

4. 4 "x 2" PVC bushing (if not available to combine two, like 4×3 and 3×2)

5. 4 "PVC Adapter FPT (cleaning out adapter)

6. 4 Plug "PVC MPT thread

7. PVC primer, one with dye if possible (purple, blue)

8. Cement PVC pipe, medium body is best

The rest is provided by our SIK-201 kit.

Teams / Tools:

Suggested tools for building potato launcher:

1. Saw wood (or saw, for cutting pipe, maybe you already cut in store)

2. Stripping

3. Terminal crimping ring (pliers can work)

4. 3 / 16 "Allen wrench

5. 7 / 16 wrench

6. Drill and ½ "drill

7. Middle round average for the configuration file pipe (or round if you have one)

8. Cloth to clean the PVC cement (disposable)

Step 2: Prepare the materials for mounting

To ensure that all goes well and smoothly, proper conditioning and size of materials needed. Pay special attention to the configuration of the pipe ends, as this is an important factor in proper solvent welding with the fittings.

PVC PIPE SIZING

Cut the two pipes in size, 4 "diameter cut 12" long and 2 "in diameter. Cut 48" long with the saw unless it did in the store. Using the file, remove the corners on the inside and outside of the pipe. Lacing inside helps reduce the amount of potato scud that can accumulate in the launcher, and breaking the outside corner ensures solvent welding, if this is not done leak paths may result. Cut end must be as square possible. At one end of the 1 1 / 2 "pipe is suggested that the inner chamfer of 0.020" and the outside filed or turned down to almost meet the corner interior, creating a blunt knife to help size the potato.

PVC ACCESSORIES

Inspect the installation the really bad weld lines or possible large imbalances that can result in premature failure. Remove all paper tags or labels to peel, scrape, even with a bit of primer to clean the adhesive past. File off any sharp spurs that may impede their ability to grip firmly when accessories assembly.

Step 3: Mounting the lancet launcher weapon

I Assembly Hall:

Prime both ends of the pipe 4 ", also priming the 4" bushing, both 4 "coupler sockets, and 4" slip fit adapter female. have no manual on the adapter threads! Immediately apply pipe cement to the three prepared 4 "fittings, then generously to both ends of the 4 "pipe. Start both the coupling adapter and accessories at the pipe, start the bushing in the coupler, then right to the assembly with the threads of Above press along with body weight, while spinning about 1 / 2 turn. Hold this position for at least 30 seconds. The pipe ends should bottom each approximately 1 1 / 2 "inside the cavity of the connection. If they both do not bottom, either apply immediately somehow harder to get, or screwed and have to throw away – to start with that. If the fittings and pipes are properly conditioned this should not be a problem. Clean up spilled glue with the rag, but leave a good bead on the outer tube / accessories online. If any glue on the threads to get it out of there as fast as possible! Any glue on their hands should only be allowed to dry and then peel it off. Using solvents to remove only increase your exposure to it.

Barrel Second Assembly:

First one end of the barrel and 2 "socket on the hub. If one end of the barrel was chamfered to a knife edge regular "prime square" of the pipe. Apply glue liberally to the pipe, and press together, again using a point 1 / 4 turn down. Hold for 30 + seconds. After releasing place the unit upright for several minutes for the glue some more. Solvent Welding is a curing process of drying. Solvent is lost, hence the term drying, but the action of the solvent effectively cures all parties individual plastic in a continuous process physically joined piece of plastic. Is successful, solvent welds are always stronger than the pipe bulk.

AT THIS POINT FOR SAFETY AND wait at least 24 hours to fully cure the glue and solvent to dissipate.

III of the installation of the electrodes

SIK-20 The kit includes 2 sets of size electrodes for use in coupling fits over the pipe. Most back of the pipe and the coupling is 2 "and recommends focus electrodes in the area of overlap, 180 degrees opposite. Once marked the centers of electrodes will be drilled ½" holes focused on brand and exactly opposite each other. This point should touch the tips. (Once the terminals are connected and tightened the bolts and nuts expand and increase the gap of electrodes … See Section V)

IV Assembly Mango

Push the handle ends in the aluminum tube to their seats at the bottom. Connect the modular interface of the MRS-201 series ring and the handle assembly using the 4 ¼ -20 x 5 / 8 "screws from the top of socket. Check the alignment on a flat surface. Place the ring arcs in the barrel, near where the barrel and the chamber meet. Attach with soft rings upper and (4) ¼ -20 x 7 / 8 "socket screws and square nuts

In turn, TIGHTENING for the opposition parties have CLAMPS EQUAL SPACNG between them. PLEASE DO NOT overtighten. Excessive pressure, can fracture the PVC. Pressing the small side of the Allen wrench PROVIDE ADUEQATE PAR.

V Igniter / lead / electrode connection

Insert the electrode array through pre-drilled ½ " holes. Insert the red button on the handle through a guide hole through the wires and the side facing the camera. Wire Size, remove insulation, slide the heat shrink, crimp on terminals slide heat shrink to insulate the terminal and cable connection. shrink tubing using a lighter or a hairdryer. Connect the ignition electrode terminals for threading in this order: washer – Terminal – the nut and tighten. The electrode array will be expanded and nuts in the hole and provide an airtight seal, tighten up to ¼ "threads are above the nut.

CAUTION – Before reviewing SURE ELECTRODE GAP chamber is empty QUEUE / VAPORS FIRST.

Open camera from a distance, look to check the spark electrode gap to jump. The deficit should be around 1 / 8 "to 3 / 16" and produce a bright spark. If the electrodes are very close to pulling out and file / grind the tips slightly to widen the gap. Once you have consistency to unleash your time to add the electrode covers (plastic cover with metal insert). Align the electrode tip screw and gently tap.

Step 4: Using the launcher

1. Now that the spark is verified, connect test threaded plug into the adapter. Wires must be hired at least two steps. If not, the verification of dirt in the threads, and if clear, obtain a 60deg triangle file diamond, and the size of the connection wires down a bit. The wires are at an angle of 60deg, the presentation of these trees. Usually the presentation the first few threads is ok.

2. With the lid, load a potato! With the camera on the floor, put a potato in the barrel of the gun pitcher Spud, and pressed with the palm of your hand, shaving excess, creating a cylindrical potato plug. Make sure that contacts potato firmly wall around it, or it will fire or not well. Loading the potato sideways is acceptable, as it creates the most stable of all projectile modes. Ram the potato to within 2 "of the breech of the gun, with a smaller diameter PVC pipe or broomstick. Do not push too far or fall into the camera … and just be a short firing cycle.

3. With the lancet firmly seated in the room, pick up the pitcher and holding with one hand, dispense 1-2 seconds of Static Guard ™ (Hairspray works too) directly into the camera. Do not use too much, just make a mess. Close quickly by threaded end cap hand tight, do not use a tool to tighten two turns or you'll never do it again.

4. Yell Fire in the hole! " The point of the launcher in a safe direction and press the power button. That the pope crashed there should come a very fast pace, with a report good size, and depending on where it is proposed and how a sharp angle, is going anywhere from 6 inches to ~ 200 meters from the muzzle. Pretty cool. Clicking on the ignition a few times and did not work, you're not alone, check out my next section.

5. If the weapon Spud worked great! Remove the cap (this may require a tool), vent the spent gases to get a new air cargo, and repeat as necessary!

Troubleshooting your Spud gun barrel

There is a lot of reasons why your Spud gun launcher can not be working. First, and NEVER remove the cap and start clicking away at the igniter. Again, this has led to human fire and chemical thermal hair thing again ….

Hairspray in Cold Weather just is not right. Too Much of a non-combustible things in the dew condenses on the walls of the chamber, which is very difficult to burn. You might consider a lighter, more hot fuel (propane. …)

To "calm" a misfire you need to make the cover, while pointing in a safe direction. Let the House to air for several minutes, maybe more, to get the fuel load out. After you are sure the fuel has been discussed, once further verify the spark, by simply turning the camera enough so you can see where the spark should be. Never point the camera directly to his face or body, or any other person. If spark, then it is a fuel mixture problem.

One of the most common fuel problems leading to misfire fuel too! Not usually a problem with hairspray, other richer fuels can be overloaded above its UEL value, and will not work. Always try to less than fuel instead of more fuel.
