How I can use my WD passport back up my desktop only?

All my important files are kept on computer my desktop, everything else is not important. How I can get my WD external back up only my desktop (to save space)? I am not using the included software to WD, since I formatted. I'm using Windows backup. At this point, I think Windows Backup is a backup of all the C: drive.

Do not use Windows Backup. Do not use any backup. Just minimize all … select all files on the desktop, right click and copy .. WD drive to open the My Computer icon … and click paste. Backup programs often right are more trouble than it's worth. When you do it yourself is the everything can be trusted backup.
